When Simon tries to catch a salmon he encounters the frustrations of any small boy. Actually, catching a fish is more difficult than it looks, unless you're older. Suddenly, Simon's luck changes when an eagle carrying a salmon in its claw accidentally drops it into a tidal pool. Torn between sympathy for the increasingly panic-stricken fish and the desire to catch something of his own, Simon eventually decides to build a channel to the incoming tide and let the fish swim free.
Betty Waterton and Ann Blades have combined to give this simple story a touching and evocative richness.
