Being inside one of Grandma Prisbrey's houses was like being inside a rainbow or a kaleidoscope or a jewel.
The walls glowed and glittered with color because they were made of bottles–large and small, fancy and plain. Grandma Prisbrey salvaged every bottle she could find to build her houses. She discovered that most of the things people threw away could be used to make new and beautiful objects. Old Headlamps, chipped dishes, broken dolls, lost buttons–all found their way into her creations.
Soon people started calling Grandma Prisbrey an artist. "Even though I can't draw a car that looks like one," she said. "But I guess there are different kinds of art." Vibrant and lyrical, this is an evocative introduction to the world of American visionary artist Grandma Prisbrey.
