Mi-chan, a little girl living in snowy northern Japan, makes small rabbits from snow but needs something for their eyes. She walks through the snowy countryside with her mother to the village market, where a flower seller gives her a branch of bright red berries. Along the way, Mi-chan encounters the beauty and traditions of wintertime in Japan.
