Squirrel and Hare are making a birthday cake for Little Grey Rabbit who is upset because they keep shooing her away.
A long time ago in a little house on the edge of a wood lived a Hare, a Squirrel, and a little Grey Rabbit. The house had no electricity or gas. Water did not come out of a tap; they fetched it from a brook. There was no bathroom, and in the kitchen little Grey Rabbit cooked on a wood fire.
They had many friends–Moldy Warp the mole, slow and sensible, the Hedgehogs with their young son Fuzzypeg, Wise Owl, Water Rat, Badger, and lots of other animals who lived in the fields and hedgerows round about.
