Mousekin is a little American white-footed mouse who feels lonely. It is Springtime and he would so like to find another mouse of his own kind for a friend. All through the day Mousekin sleeps, but when the sun goes down he begins his search. Everywhere he goes there are rustlings of reeds and grasses and moving animals that sound like another mouse. Everywhere there are glimpses of birds and leaves that look like another mouse. And all the time there are dangers to avoid–weasels, owls and foxes.
How Mousekin finds his friend is simply and charmingly told and very beautifully illustrated. In addition to many commonly known animals the reader is introduced to such fascinating creatures as the box turtle, the peeper frog and the catfish.
