Six Companions Find Their Fortune

"There was once a man who was good at many things. He served as a soldier, bravely and well. But when the war was over, all he got was threepence."

Thus begins this intriguing tale in which a man sets out to win his due from an unappreciative world. Alone, it would seem he has little hope of success, but he soon finds friends to help him: a man so strong he can uproot trees barehanded, a marksman so keen he can hit a fly at two miles, a man whose breath blows hard enough to turn a windmill, a runner so swift he uses only one leg, and a fellow whose hat can bring terrible frost and everlasting winter.

Together this oddly assorted group outwit a dishonest king and his whole army and carry home a treasure in triumph. Lilo Fromm's brilliant pictures have captured all the verve of a little-known but highly engaging tale.
