When Timothy Allen and his father left to vacation in a tiny Mexican village on the Sea of Cortez, Mr. Allen promised his son that the sea would bring him a great adventure. What was it to be? Timothy kept wondering, until he heard his new friend Pancho describe a "spring pileup." — The boys managed to stow away on a fishing cruiser and at last actually witnessed the wonderful, terrifying scene. They watched as thousands of fish of all sizes and species, from sharks to sardines, converged on one small area of the sea, attacking and sometimes devouring each other, turning the water into a whirlpool of maddened creatures. For Tim it was an adventure more exciting than any he could have imagined.
And Tim not only experienced an unforgettable event, but in living through it performed an act of heroism and discovered that there is more than one aspect to both bravery and fear.
