An Elegy on the Death of a Mad Dog is a poem by Oliver Goldsmith, first published in 1766, and later illustrated by Randolph Caldecott as one of his influential Victorian picture books in 1879. The poem, a humorous yet poignant narrative, tells of a kind man who is bitten by a dog, but recovers, while the dog, having previously bitten the man, dies from rabies.
