After spotting a toad in his father's garden, Teddy recruits his friend Peter to help him capture it. Throughout their search, the boys explore nature, identify various pond and woodland creatures, and learn about the habits of birds, toads, and frogs from Teddy's parents. Instead of a toad, they find polliwogs, salamanders, and turtles.
