"Frogs," Herman J. Frog explains to his young son, Freddie, "have two important jobs to do in the world. First, they must catch mosquitoes. And second, they must make pleasant noises on summer nights."
Well, Freddie is already a whiz at mosquitoes–but no matter how hard he tries, he simply cannot master proper frog sounds.
"BarRUMP!" instructs his father, "BarROOP! BarREEP!"
"Ga-LUMP," Freddie replies hopelessly, "Ga-LOOP, Ga-LEEP! Ba-LAH, Ba-LOO, Ba-LEE..."
It's no use. He will never be in the concert at Greenwillow Pond! And worse–he will never grow up to be Head Frog, like his father!
Sorrowfully, Freddie crawls off into the woods to be ALONE, forever. But then, unexpectedly, he finds a friend–a someone like himself–who can't do what he's supposed to either!
Every child who's ever struggles through impossible lessons they simply can't do, will take to heart this funny, sympathetic, upbeat book, and will delight in its humourously expressive drawings.
